The Golden Goblet Vocabulary Words

This is a listing of the vocabulary words that I learned while reading The Golden Goblet by Eloise Jarvis McGraw.


  1. Ingratiatingly - agreeable or pleasing
  2. Sibilant - making or characterized by a hissing sound.
  3. Diffident - modest or shy because of a lack of self-confidence.
  4. Brusquely - Abrupt and curt in manner or speech discourteously blunt.
  5. Grudged - be resentfully unwilling to give, grant, or allow.
  6. Crucibles - a ceramic or metal container in which metals or other substances may be melted or subjected to very high temperatures.
  7. Amulets- an amulet, also known as a good luck charm, is an object believed to confer protection upon it's possessor.
  8. Drawplate - A draw plate is type of die consisting of a hardened steel plate with one or more holes through which wire is drawn to make it thinner.
  9. Annealing - heat metal or glass and allow it to cool slowly, in order to remove internal stresses and toughen it.
  10. Khefts - Is a very dangerous Egypt Spirit.
  11. Bas- the supposed soul of a person or god, which survived after death but had to be sustained with offerings of food. It was typically represented as a human-headed bird.
  12. Sets - put, lay, or stand something in a specified place or position.
  13. Jocular - fond of or characterized by joking humorous or playful.
  14. Irresolute - showing or feeling hesitancy, uncertain.
  15. Extricated - Free.
  16. Askew - No Straight.
  17. Aghast - Shock or Horror.
  18. Temerity - Confidence or Boldness.
  19. Negligently - Guilty.
  20. Igrate - an Ungrateful person.
  21. Invariable - Never Changing.
  22. Fatigue - is a term used to describe an overall feeling of tiredness or lack of energy.
  23. Waif - Homeless Child or Person.
  24. Aura - A deep Atmosphere.
  25. Lord Sobk - A god of the Nile.
  26. Maat - Daughter of the Sun God.
  27. Sedge - Grass Like Plant.

  30. Obsidian - Is a form of rock made by Water and Lava
  31. Fishmonger - A person that sells fish at the market
  32. Vindictively - To seek Revenge

  34. Obliterated - to wipe out, destroy

  36. Mollified - Anger or Anxiety.
  37. Ferment -Stir Up.
  38. Gawking -Stare openly, looking stupid.
  39. Contagion - the communication of disease from one person to another by close contact.
  40. Frivolity - Lack of Seriousness.
  41. Bulwarks -A defensive wall.

  44. Anubis -the god of the dead.
  45. Natron -a mixture from salt.
  46. Emblamers - is the art and science of preserving human or animal remains by treating them to forestall decomposition.
